PALO, Leyte, 2 April 2015— Despite busy Holy Week activities, the Archdiocese of Palo is preparing for the possible onslaught of the typhoon “Chedeng”, as it nears the shores of the eastern sea boars of the country.
Fr. Al Cris Badana of the archdiocese’s Relief and Rehabilitation Unit (RRU) said they are ready to respond to any eventualities that may arise during the typhoon.
“The RRU prepared the basic emergency requirement for an immediate response just in case the need arises,” Badana said.
As of 3pm today, the typhoon was located at 930km east of Catarman in Northern Samar packing a maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph while moving west northwest at 19kph.
The typhoon is expected to make a landfall over Aurora, Quezon, or Isabela region if it maintains its current track by Saturday or early Sunday.
The local government units in Eastern Visayas have already done the mitigation measures and pre-emptive evacuation in anticipation of the reported 4-meter storm surge and very strong winds along the eastern coasts of Samar.
Badana said the RRU is closely monitoring the movement of the typhoon through PAGASA and JTWC forecast. “Updates are communicated to the parishes,” he said.
PAGASA said it is ready to raise Signal # 1 this afternoon over Bicol and norther Samar provinces, as sea travels in these areas will be suspended. (Eileen Nazareno-Ballesteros/CBCPNews)
