MANILA, March 19, 2014— Since rebuilding of damaged churches would take a while, “alternative churches” will rise in Bohol within the year, a Catholic bishop said.
Tagbilaran Bishop Leonardo Medroso said, the building of 15 initial places of worship is underway and is expected to be finished before the year ends.
The bishop said, each alternative church can accommodate 800 to 1,000 parishioners.
“We want the people to have a decent place for the liturgy,” Medroso told Church-run Radio Veritas.
“We already have benefactors to help us. These alternative churches will be finished within a year or earlier,” he said.
The 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Bohol last October destroyed the diocese’s 50 parish churches.
Medroso also revealed that the government has already allocated funds for the rebuilding of damaged heritage churches.
The bishop, however, said it would take time before these old churches will be restored. He added that more help is needed for the restoration work. (CBCPNews)
