DAVAO City, May 28, 2015—“I can feel her presence here. I can feel Ina’s presence.”
This is how Brenda Milan, a Marian devotee and a photojournalist described this year’s biggest gathering of Marian devotees in the Archdiocese of Davao, the 9th Grand Marian Procession held on May 23.
Fifty-two different images of the Blessed Mother lined up in the streets from the Ateneo de Davao University Matina Campus to San Pedro Cathedral with some devotees even walking barefoot.
Spearheaded by the Archdiocesan Council of Lay Associations and Integrated Movements (ACLAIM), the Grand Marian Procession has been a tradition in the Archdiocese of Davao every May wherein, lay movements, organizations, and parishes named after Mama Mary gather to pay tribute to the Blessed Virgin.
Archbishop Emeritus of Davao Fernando R. Capalla presided over the Eucharistic celebration at the San Pedro Cathedral to end the event.
In his homily, he said it is only through being humble like Mary that one can be truly blessed by the Lord.
“Every Holy Mass we celebrate, we make present the Lord. Jesus is present. He can do what He wants us to do if we are humble,” he added.
The archbishop also related the conflict in Mindanao, saying that people should go and ask the Blessed Mother’s help because “she is a person without disorder” in her. (John Frances C. Fuentes/CBCP News)
