TACURONG, April 10, 2015 –-Two priests in the Archiocese of Cotabato marked a milestone in their lives with the celebration of their silver jubilee as priests on April 8 at the Notre Dame of Tacurong College, Tacurong City.
Cotabato Archbishop Orlando B. Cardinal Quevedo, OMI presided over a Holy Mass for the intentions of Rev. Frs. Mario C. Combong and Jessie P. Pasquin, members of the Diocesan Clergy of Cotabato (DCC).
Cotabato Auxiliary Bishop Jose Colin M. Bagaforo, DD, DCC and OMI priests, religious brothers and sisters, other congregations, members of their respective families, relatives, friends, former classmates, former parishioners and co-workers and other acquaintances were also present during the event.
Both Combong and Pasquin expressed their sincerest thanks to all those who have prayed for and have journeyed with them through the years. Combong shared the Bible verse he used during his ordination, which is from Luke (22, 19): “This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me”, while Pasquin has gained strength to serve with the words from Luke 24: 35, “How he had been made known to them in the breaking of the bread.”
Combong, who hails from Bugabungan, Upi, Maguindanao was ordained priest on April 6, 1990 at the San Isidro Labrador Parish in Nuro, Upi, by then Cotabato Archbishop Philip F. Smith, OMI, DD. He was then assigned Vocation Director and Bible Apostolate Director of the archdiocese from 1990 to 1991. He also became the Dean of Studies at the Notre Dame Archdiocesan Seminary in Rebuken, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao from 1991 to 1997; Combong then took up his graduate studies at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City from 1997 to 1999. He was assigned parish priest of the Queenship of Mary Parish in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat from 1999 to 2004 and parish rector at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Cotabato City from 2004 to 2009.
After serving as the parish rector of the Cathedral, Fr. Combong served as the pastoral coordinator of the Archdiocese of Cotabato since 2009. While serving as the Head of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Office, he was assigned as the parish priest of the San Vicente Ferrer Quasi-Parish in Salimbao, Sultan Kudarat from 2009 to 2011, as parish priest of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in the Notre Dame Village, Cotabato City from 2011 to 2012. To date, Combong still heads the Archdiocesan Pastoral Office where he leads his team in helping the various parishes of the archdiocese organize the Basic Ecclesial Communities and the different pastoral formation programs for parish lay leaders.
Years of service
Pasquin, who hails from Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, was ordained priest on April 4, 1990 at the Sta. Catalina Parish in Dukay, Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat by Archbishop Philip F. Smith, OMI, DD. From then on, Fr. Pasquin was assigned as the assistant parish priest at the Immaculate Conception cathedral, Cotabato City from 1990 to 1992; as parish priest of St. Joseph Parish in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat from 1992 to 1995.
He took his graduate studies at the Ateneo de Manila University from 1995 to 1997 and was assigned as the Director/ Superintendent of the Archdiocesan Notre Dame Schools of Cotabato from 1997 to 2004.
He became the parish priest of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish, Cotabato City from 2003 to 2004 before taking up his post-graduate studies at the De La Salle University in Manila from 2005 to 2007. He then became the President of the Notre Dame of Salaman College in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat, and then Director of the Notre Dame of Kalamansig in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat from 2007 to 2014.
