MANILA, Dec. 11, 2013— An array of experts from the academe spoke at the first San Agustin National Research and Education Conference last month.
The conference gathered hundreds of educators from across the country at the San Agustin University in Iloilo City last Nov. 27 to 29.
With the theme “Philippine Higher Education and Research in the Knowledge Society”, the three-day event consisted of six plenary talks on topics like social science and humanities, natural science, technology and innovation, and education.
Among the notable speakers include Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Dr. Minella Alarcon and former Education Undersecretary Dr. Isagani Cruz.
Other resource persons were journalist Joselito Zulueta; UST Graduate School Professor, Dr. Allan de Guzman; UST CHED-PHERNet Director, Dr. Fortunato Sevilla III; University of St. La Salle Guidance & Evaluation Center Director, Dr. Rowena Banes; and Women’s & Children’s Rights Advocate, Atty. Evalyn Ursua.
In line with the University’s celebration of its 60th Anniversary as the first University in Western Visayas, the conference sought to provide a venue “to generate and share knowledge on new issues affecting Philippine education, current trends in science and technology, cultural heritage and other social institutions.”
Aside from the plenary presentations of the invited speakers, 22 papers have been submitted for oral presentation. On the other hand, 10-20 posters were included in the exhibits. (CBCPNews)
