MANILA, Oct. 20, 2016 – CBCP president and Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas will deliver the keynote address this Sunday, Oct. 23 at the SMX, Mall of Asia in Pasay City as Church-based lay organization Marriage Encounter Foundation of the Philippines honors the country’s outstanding families.
Dubbed the “Search for Outstanding Families 2016,” some 2,500 members of various Marriage Encounter communities, delegations from various dioceses and parishes, national, mandated organizations, winners’ relatives and friends will be present at the event.
The project is presented by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines through the Episcopal Commission on Family and Life headed by Daet Bishop Gilbert Garcera.
MEFP chair couple Roberto and Tinnette Aventajado said the awardees include parishioners from Isabela City in Basilan to Baguio City.
“They live simple lives, some working as tricycle drivers and laundrywomen who have successfully sent their children to school,” explained the Aventajados.
They added while all the winners are working men and women, they have seen to it that they regularly serve their respective parishes either as lay ministers, lectors, commentators, greeters or choir members.
Foster families in Manila
Various lay organizations supported the search through sponsorship of transportation and accommodation of the winners, the couples, and all their children.
The Aventajados said these organizations include Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals for the Gavileno Family of Cotabato, Couples for Christ for the 12-member Martin Family of Baguio City, Spirit of Love Catholic Community for the Fantonial Family from Malaybalay composed of 12 members, Ligaya ng Panginoon for the Peligro Family composed of 12 from Tagbilaran, Focolare for the Abacajen Family composed of seven from San Jose de Antique, Catholic Women’s League for the Jaboyan Family composed of eigth persons from Calbayog, Family Renewal Movement for the eight-member Cardano Family from Legazpi City, Alliance for the Family Foundation/MEFP East Cluster for the nine-member Pastera Family from Davao and Carol Foundation/Buklod 1 ME Community for the 13-member Villas Family of Isabela de Basilan.
