MANILA, July 21, 2015 –- With final preparations for the 2nd Marriage Encounter National Congress underway and more than 700 delegates pre-registered, organizers hope to formulate motions for the upcoming XIV Ordinary General Assembly (Synod of Bishops) during the said event taking place on July 25 at the Century Park Sheraton along Pablo Ocampo Avenue, Manila.
The conference would also want to build consensus on and share about marital and family enrichment programs that can be shared by faith-based organizations.
It is the congress’ aim to provide a venue for common study and reflection on various pastoral issues affecting families in the country.
CBCP president Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas will deliver the keynote address on the conference theme “The Gospel of the Family Today.”
“We are overwhelmed by the support extended by both Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle and CBCP president and Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas,” said Marriage Encounter president – couple Robert and Tinette Aventajado.
There will be four simultaneous breakout group discussions in the morning:
- “Pastoral Care for Couples Civilly Married or Living Together”, to be given by Fr. Dominador G. Guzman, Jr, of the Society of St. Paul
- “Caring for Wounded Families (Separated, Divorced and not Remarried, Divorced and Remarried and Single-Parent Families)” with Canon Lawyer Fr. Rex M. Mananzan, S.J., from the Loyola School of Theology
- “Pastoral Attention Towards Persons with Homosexual Tendencies” with Fr. Daniel Healy, the Spiritual Director of Courage Philippines
- “The Transmission of Life and the Challenges of the Declining Birthrate” with the Institute for Reproductive Health-Philippines Executive Director Mitos Rivera
Evangelization, young marriages
There will also be three simultaneous break-out sessions after lunch with Fr. Benito Tuazon, Marriage Encounter Foundation of the Philippines’ national director, on the topic “Guiding Engaged Couples in Their Preparation for Marriage”; “Accompanying Married Couples in the Initial Years of Marriage” with the Marriage Encounter movement founder Fr. Ruben M. Tanseco, S.J. as resource person.
Radio Veritas President Fr. Anton C. T. Pascual will discuss “Upbringing and the Role of the Family in Evangelization” during the afternoon session.
There will be an hour for round-table discussions, which will be followed by a concelebrated Mass to be presided by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle at 5:00 p.m.
According to the Aventajados, aside from the 700 pre-registered delegates from all over the country and some chapters worldwide, they expect more participants to register onsite. (Melo M. Acuña/CBCPNews)
